Ah, this is a fun section. Below the links there are some random
notes on care that I haven't found a good place for yet,
but really this page is for Fixer Uppers !
All the resulting beauty with none
of the work. Well, at least for you guys. Here are some
horses that I have prettied up after receiving them
in varying condition. I will add more as I complete them. This
area will probably get pretty big, as I nearly always have
GC restorations going on:
I don't really feed my Grand Champions, just let 'em browse and
do their own thing.
That's the beauty of model horses, that you don't
have to feed em or shovel their.. uh.. leavings. Though I'm sure they
nibble when I'm not looking. I guess if you have Feed n Nuzzle
horses, they come with little food and treats, and maybe they share
with the others.
Dusting?
Right now I live in an apartment and have little space for keeping my
GCs on display, so they don't usually sit around long enough to
gather dust. But if they did I would probably dust them I guess.
With My Little Ponies, the dusting thing is a bigger concern because
their texture is softer and more likely to absorb dirt. GCs are
pretty tough, so I think they'll be ok. Dust if you need to, though,
especially light colored ones.
Handling GCs
I like to handle mine and pet em and stuff. But I do wash
my hands before I pick them up, especially if it's a light
colored GC, and especially if I've been outside touching
doorknobs and other germy places. And if I had friends, I'd
tell them to wash up before handling my guys, too.
Another thing to consider is that if you've been unpacking
shippies and touching a lot of newsprint, your hands will
get all smudgy. So if you see mysterious gray fingerprints on
some of your horses, you may find out that you're
responsible.
Risky Displaying and Shipping
Myself, I only display GCs on "deep" shelves (so they can be far from
the edge) or on shelves that are above carpeted areas. So far I have never
broken a Grand Champion leg, and I feel that prevention is the best
medicine on this topic. Broken legs happen, especially over hard floors.
Also be careful of hyper-energetic cats (*Ahem. Mine*) that may go climbing and
knock stuff over.
Re: Shipping. I have had a broken leg (on a Little Eagle) due entirely
to poor packing (or should I say NO packing?) on the part of a dumb
ebay seller. She put some horses in a plastic shopping bag, and put that in a
cardboard box and figured it would be ok. All it takes is some
plain old newspaper to keep your shippies safe and prevent the rattling/banging
that can result in broken limbs. (And I also use saran wrap around the guys
to prevent the newsprint from leaving any dark marks on them. I say this because some
sellers will
give you this whiney act about how much styrofoam peanuts cost, how expensive
the bubble wrap is, and of course you have to pay for it,
blah blah.
Uhm. Retards? NEWSPAPER. It's free and it works fine. Deal with it and
stop your peanut/bubble wrap whining.
Poor little helpless shippies rattling around... Those people
make me sick.
