The Year

Standard Run Traditional Grand Champions

Jeez... Can you believe 2001 is come and gone already? Remember when we said "2001" and it sounded all spacey and futuristic? And now we've already been there and what...? No flying cars, no jet packs, no robot maids -- vending machines still don't take pennies, and pay phones still don't take dollars? It was kind of a disappointment.
For Empire, too, as they would not be making their toys independently from now on, and all their stuff was being acquired by a bigger fish.

There were some nice horses to be had in 2001, though, so at least Empire finished with a respectable bang. I would say the 2001s are almost equal in coolness to the 2000s, a fine accomplishment since Parachute is such a tough act to follow. There were six foals this year, though technically they belong in the 2002 section, (they were not sold until late 2002, almost 2003) but they are here with their parents. In the actual year of 2001, there were no new foals sold except for a Mail Order set of orphan Clydesdale colts.

As in 2000, the genders here have similar coat and tack colors, but there are some shade differences. To help locate the horses in the photos, they have been referenced by their number position in the pictures: 1 through 6, moving left to right, top to bottom. The breeds are linked to a larger page, so you can scroll down and see them all in sequence, if you like...

And I don't know about you, but I'm still waiting on my Jet Pack. I want what I was promised.

These are the six foals to the horses above, but they were not sold until 2002/2003: From left to right, they are:

"Cactus" = Dosie Doe X Lucky's Lone Star
"Peaceful Judgment"= Miss Congeniality X Chief Justice
"Whispering Ash"= Willow Wind X Firestorm
"Greased Lightning"= Petal to the Metal X Sonic Boom
"Twister"= Lovely Lass X Sir Triston
"Pequeno Acrobata"= Princess Perdita X Senor Valadore... Though this foal's Bio Card lists the mother as "Life's Dream," a GC we've never heard of before...

This is a nice bunch of foalies, though there seems to be a lot of bay. The main thing I lament here is the Sorrel foal, who would have been SO cute with splashed white markings like her parents. I haven't seen her in person, though, so maybe her other qualities make up for it. I think I like Whispering Ash the best with her little socky in front, though Cactus is a nice one. Cactus has the same oddity that Fair Skies from '02 does; the white layer is not thick enough to cover her tan mold color, and neither parent has this issue. I'm sure Pequeno Acrobata is cute, but the speckled/spotty gray foal in this pose has been done too many times, from Shadow to Lucky to Silver Sultan, and that's not counting all the plain gray and white ones. Supposedly, this is the Last of the Lipizzazer Foals Born Gray. Get ready for black! (*Cheers.*)
