The Year

Standard Run Traditional Grand Champions

These are the 12 Adult Traditionals that were released in 2000. There were also 6 foals that were the offspring of this year's couples, and they are pictured below. 2000 Saw the introduction of two new poses, the Sliding Stop Stallion and the Gaited Mare.
The Gaited Mare was not actually new at this point. It had been used previously on a few different horses, but most had been stallions. Empire was in deep financial doo-doo in 2000, so perhaps they decided that they needed a new mare pose, but didn't want to invest the money into having a new mold created. So they just took the "lump" off the Gaited Stallion, and introduced a Unisex Grand Champion pose. There had been some poses like that earlier (The Walking Stallion) but 2000 was the first year (to my knowledge) that a unisex mold was to be used on standard run horses.

There are some beautiful horses in the 2000 group, and the genders are all but matching exactly in color, and have similarly colored and patterned tack. Many of them even have the same number of white socks, and similar facial markings. All the horses in this group are bay, dun or some variety of chestnut, with black and gray being absent. The first photo is the group of six Mares and the second is the six Stallions. Click on the breeds below for more information and some better pictures of these guys. To help locate the horses in the photos, they have been referenced by their "number" position in the pictures: 1 through 6, moving left to right, top to bottom.

Jutland Draft Horses...Flaxen chestnuts. Both in #1 position.
Mare: "Jubilee"
Stallion: "Magistrate"

Irish Hunters...Bright chestnuts. Mare in #2, Stallion in #5.
Mare: "Molly Mc Brae"
Stallion: "Fitzpatrick"

National Show Horses...Flaxen chestnut pintos. Both in #3 position.
Mare: "Melody"
Stallion: "Parachute"

Mustangs...Buckskin/Dun. Mare in #4, Stallion in #6.
Mare:"Shadow Mist"
Stallion:"Flaming Glory"

Quarter Horses...Palominos. Mare in #5, Stallion in #2.
Mare:"Butterscotch"
Stallion:"Liquid Gold"

Holsteiners...Mahogany Bay. Mare in #6, Stallion in #4.
Mare:"Vienna"
Stallion:"MardiGras"

Here are pictures of the six foals that were born to this year's couples. They match their parents exactly, even down to their quirks (Neat trick!) and are very cute. The little pinto foal is especially handsome with his overo face, and the mustang foal even has white streaking in his tail.

From left to right, they are:

"Fitzbrae": Irish Hunter Foal (Molly Mc Brae and Fitzpatrick)
"Harmony": Nat'l Showhorse Foal (Melody and Parachute)
"Viennese Waltz": Holsteiner Foal (Vienna and Mardigras)
"Goldilocks": Quarter Horse Foal (Butterscotch and Liquid Gold)
"Royal Jubilee": Jutland Foal (Jubilee and Magistrate)
"Shadow Glory": Mustang Foal (Shadow Mist and Flaming Glory)

The foal pictures are a good way to show how much similarity there is in the colors of this year's horses. Fitzbrae and Viennese Waltz, and even Goldilocks and Shadow Glory are very alike.
